Discovering Canarian food does not have to mean planning a long excursion for every meal. From Villa Dolce Vita in Armeñime, you can alternate lunch in Adeje, a seaside table in La Caleta and a market shop for a relaxed meal at home. This guide also includes two of the owner’s recommendations from the welcome guide: El Cordero and Agua y Sal in Tajao.

Canarian food to try
Start with papas arrugadas, the islands’ wrinkly potatoes, and ask for the mojo sauces on the side so you can taste each one. Sharing a few starters is a practical way to explore different flavours without ordering a full dish for everyone.
- Cheese: try fresh, semi-cured or mature varieties; ask about the milk and where the cheese comes from.
- Gofio: toasted cereal flour, served in preparations such as escaldón.
- Fish: vieja, sama and cherne are names to look out for; availability depends on the day’s produce.
- Meat: rabbit in salmorejo marinade and roast meats feature in the island’s cooking.
The Tenerife Island Council’s food guide explains these ingredients and dishes. For dessert, ask about quesillo or bienmesabe, both mentioned by Guía de Isora’s tourism service. Individual restaurant menus vary.
Where to eat in Adeje and La Caleta
Otelo in Adeje old town
Guía Repsol lists Restaurante Otelo at Calle Los Molinos 44, Adeje, with garlic chicken among its specialities. Consider lunch alongside a walk around the historic centre. Confirm the current opening day and kitchen hours directly on +34 922 780 374. Our Adeje and Barranco del Infierno guide can help you plan the rest of the day.
La Vieja in La Caleta
La Vieja focuses on fish and seafood. Its website lists daily opening from 13:00 to 22:30, at Edificio Terraza de La Caleta I. Reservations: +34 922 711 548. Check the menu before ordering; for fish sold by weight, ask for an approximate total and whether side dishes are included.
Two recommendations from our welcome guide
The owner recommends these two restaurants to guests. Both are outside Adeje and La Caleta, so plan a separate drive and book ahead, particularly for a group.
El Cordero in Guargacho
El Cordero serves grilled meats and Canarian dishes in a banana-growing setting. Its website includes potatoes with mojo and grilled cheese among its offerings. Published hours are Monday to Saturday, 13:00–23:00; Sunday, 12:30–23:00. Use its official contact page to confirm a table and kitchen hours. Guided farm visits are currently listed as temporarily unavailable, so do not assume a tour is included with lunch.
Agua y Sal in San Miguel de Tajao
The second recommendation is Agua y Sal at Calle Callao Hondo 22, Tajao, for a fish and seafood outing. Telephone: +34 922 171 176. Published directories disagree about opening days and the start of service, so we do not give a fixed timetable. Confirm the day, kitchen hours and your table directly when booking. Specify the Tajao restaurant, the total number of guests and any allergies. Also ask how fish sold by weight is priced before ordering.

Markets for local produce
Adeje’s Agromercado, at Calle Archajara 5 in Las Torres, currently lists Saturday and Sunday opening from 08:00 to 13:30. Browse fruit, vegetables and other products from participating sellers. Check the weekly list, as stalls and prices can change.
If you are visiting the capital, you can fit Nuestra Señora de África Market into your walk. Tenerife Tourism lists Monday-to-Saturday opening from 06:00 to 14:00 and Sunday from 07:00 to 14:00; individual businesses may keep different hours. See our Santa Cruz guide. For a straightforward shopping trip during your stay, choose Adeje and save the capital’s market for a day you already plan to spend there.
Enjoying Canarian food at your own pace
Choose one restaurant for each outing and allow time to park. For a party of nine, confirm seating for the whole group and any booking conditions. Mention allergies when reserving and again when ordering, since sauces and accompaniments vary by recipe. Published opening hours do not necessarily mean that the kitchen accepts orders until closing.
Villa Dolce Vita has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and space for up to nine guests. After shopping or eating out, return to its private heated pool, included in your stay. Mixing restaurant visits with relaxed meals at home lets you set your own holiday pace.

Check Villa Dolce Vita’s dates and prices to plan your stay in southern Tenerife.
Planning Canarian food stops for 2027
If you are booking a 2027 stay, use this guide to choose your areas and restaurants first. Then reconfirm menus, opening days and group arrangements shortly before your travel date. A table booking and a villa reservation are separate arrangements. Renova brings together the Villa Dolce Vita stay and these local ideas; each restaurant sets its own prices and conditions.
