Santa Cruz de Tenerife makes a refreshing change from beach and pool days. Its market, shopping streets, squares and gardens offer plenty to explore, while the waterfront Auditorio adds a striking architectural stop. From Villa Dolce Vita in Armeñime, plan a city day with time for lunch and an unhurried return south.
Our suggested itinerary starts at La Recova, continues through the centre and finishes with one optional stop. Choose how much to walk according to your group, the weather and the time available, rather than trying to see everything in a single day.

What to see in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in one day
Start with Mercado Nuestra Señora de África, commonly called La Recova. Spend the morning browsing its stalls and courtyards before heading into the centre. It is a useful stop for local produce; if you plan to eat there, check the individual business’s opening hours.
Next, explore the streets around Calle del Castillo and continue to Plaza de España, between the city’s shopping district and the port. Stop for lunch, then choose between a garden visit and the Auditorio. This is a suggested independent itinerary, not a bookable guided tour.
La Recova market: opening hours
Tenerife Tourism lists market opening hours as Monday–Saturday, 06:00–14:00; Sunday, 07:00–14:00. The address is Avenida de San Sebastián, 51. The adjoining shopping centre has different opening hours.
Make this a morning stop and confirm arrangements on public holidays. Browsing the stalls is not a ticketed guided visit; purchases, food and special activities cost extra. Avoid arriving just before closing if you want time to enjoy the market.
García Sanabria Park or the Auditorio
García Sanabria Park combines gardens and sculptures for a green pause in the city. Tenerife Tourism lists free entry and year-round permanent access. Follow any temporary maintenance closures or signs. It is in another part of the centre, so allow for the extra walk or a short transport connection.
For architecture, choose the Auditorio de Tenerife. Looking at the exterior is separate from entering for an activity. Its official information lists guided visits Monday–Friday, 10:00–17:00, and Saturday, 10:00–14:00, excluding public holidays: €5 standard admission; under-12s free. Book and confirm your slot through visitas@auditoriodetenerife.com, as official pages show differing schedules. Performances require separate tickets.

Refurbishment remains a current issue: Atlántico Hoy reported on 22 October 2026 that supervision of the works was being tendered. This does not establish that the venue is closed. Check available access before visiting and stay outside any fenced areas.
Getting to Santa Cruz de Tenerife from the villa
By car or taxi
From Armeñime, plan your journey along the TF-1 towards Santa Cruz. Check traffic before setting off and use your chosen car park as the navigation destination. Journey times vary with traffic and your final stop; allow extra time for a booked visit.
A taxi or private transfer avoids searching for parking. Request a quotation covering collection, stops and the return journey. For nine passengers, confirm vehicle capacity: you may need a suitable larger vehicle or several taxis. Arrange child seats or accessible transport in advance if required.
By bus and tram
TITSA route 110 links Costa Adeje bus station with Santa Cruz Intercambiador. Its published journey time is approximately 55 minutes between terminals. Add the journey from the villa to Costa Adeje, waiting time and travel within the city. Check departures, return services, fares and payment options for your date.
The tram serves Santa Cruz and La Laguna; it does not run to Armeñime. Within the capital it can reduce walking. For García Sanabria Park, Tenerife Tourism suggests line 1 to Weyler followed by a walk along Méndez Núñez.
Where to park in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
- La Recova: the market website advertises one free hour for customers. Check validation requirements and the rate afterwards; this is not free parking for the whole day.
- Auditorio: its website lists €0.80 per hour and accessible parking spaces. Confirm current rates, opening and event-related closures before entering.
Choose a car park to suit your first stop and include the walk back in your plan. Parking at the Auditorio still leaves distances to cover to the market, Plaza de España and the park. Do not rely on finding a free space on the street.
Accessibility and shorter walking options
A pedestrian area is not automatically a fully accessible route. Check dropped kerbs, gradients, surfaces and the entrances you need. Wheelchair users should also confirm parking lifts, toilets and access to individual businesses. We have not carried out an on-site accessibility inspection of the entire route.
The Auditorio reports ramps and a lift assisted by staff; explain your requirements when booking. For a shorter day, choose the market and just one additional stop, using transport between areas if needed. Bring water, sun protection and comfortable footwear, and make rest breaks part of the itinerary.
Back to Villa Dolce Vita’s private pool
After exploring Santa Cruz de Tenerife, return to Villa Dolce Vita and its private pool with the Buddha relief. Located in Armeñime, the villa has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and space for up to nine guests, with pool heating included.
