Garachico and Icod de los Vinos offer two different ways to discover northwestern Tenerife: a historic town beside the Atlantic and a walk through squares and gardens around the famous Drago Milenario. From Villa Dolce Vita in Armeñime, you can make a day of both and return to the villa to relax.
Our suggested order is Icod first, then Garachico, with swimming as an optional extra. This keeps the outing enjoyable even when sea conditions rule out entering El Caletón.
Icod: the dragon tree and historic centre
Spend the first part of the day around the Drago and Icod’s squares. The municipal tourism website highlights Plaza de la Pila, San Marcos church and Plaza Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres. Combine them with a café stop and a stroll along the shopping streets, without adding another drive to your morning.
Entering Drago Park is a separate visit from exploring the town’s streets, giving you time among its paths and gardens. The official ticket site places the entrance at Calle Las Angustias, 1. This is different from the office address at Plaza de la Constitución, 1.

Drago Park tickets and opening hours
The official tourism page, checked on 24 October 2026, lists daily opening: 09:00–20:00 from April to October and 09:00–18:00 from November to March.

Follow the purchase link from the official website and check the price, proof required for discounts and terms for your date. We have not verified a separate last-admission time, so avoid arriving just before closing.
Garachico: historic squares and a coastal walk
Continue with a walk through Garachico’s historic centre: Plaza de la Libertad, the area around Santa Ana church, Puerta de Tierra and the exterior of San Miguel Castle. This route focuses on the streets and architecture, so it does not depend on every building being open.
Allow time for lunch and a break in a square. There is no combined admission ticket for a walk through the town; individual visitor sites may have their own charges and opening hours. Check any specific interior you want to visit before adding it to your plan.
El Caletón: deciding whether to swim
The natural pools of El Caletón are on Avenida Tomé Cano. Their volcanic setting is worth seeing even without a swim. Tenerife Tourism warns that the sea here can be powerful: “natural pool” does not guarantee calm water.
The Canary Islands Health Service page consulted shows a suitable bathing-water result dated 21 September 2026, with a bathing season of 1 June–15 October. This is dated water-quality information. It does not certify that the pools are open, lifeguarded or safe from waves on your visit.
Check AEMET’s forecast and follow local signs, barriers and instructions. We could not verify a same-day municipal report confirming that every access is open. If the pools are closed or the sea is rough, enjoy the old town instead. Never cross barriers or approach exposed rocks for a photograph.
Keep children closely supervised and avoid jumping from rocks. Visitors with reduced mobility should check their specific access needs: a 2021 municipal accessibility study already identified limitations for bathing. The current condition of those facilities and current lifeguard hours have not been verified.
Getting to Garachico and Icod from Armeñime
By car: this gives you the most flexibility for combining both towns. Set Icod as your first stop and check the current route towards the northwest before leaving. For the stretch between Icod and Garachico, check disruption on the TF-42 rather than following an old diversion notice. Allow extra time for parking and a relaxed return.
By bus: first arrange the journey from the villa to Costa Adeje bus station. From there, TITSA route 464 reaches Icod via Santiago del Teide, with an advertised terminal-to-terminal journey of about 1 hour 15 minutes. The 460 is another option, following a longer route. Neither estimate includes getting there from Armeñime or waiting for connections.
Route 363 connects Icod and Garachico, normally towards Buenavista on the outward leg and Puerto de la Cruz for the return to Icod. TITSA still hosts a diversion notice starting on 27 March affecting return stops, but the page does not specify the year or establish whether it remains in force. Confirm the return stop and current notices before travelling. If connections cannot be confirmed, simplify the outing to Icod or arrange a taxi for that section.
Taxi or private transfer: request a quote covering the route, waiting time and return. For nine guests, check whether more than one vehicle is needed. Do not assume a fixed fare for the whole day.
Parking in Garachico and Icod de los Vinos
In Garachico, the municipal description of the old harbour identifies its esplanade as a parking area that also hosts events. It is a useful place to look, subject to reservations and restrictions. The old harbour is different from the modern marina.
In Icod, Parking del Drago is a central option to locate; it is listed among existing car parks in the municipal mobility plan. We have not found reliable current prices or operating hours from the operator. Check both on arrival, especially the latest time you can collect your car. We have not confirmed any free-first-hour offer.
Garachico and Icod: a relaxed day from the villa
Our suggested plan is Drago Park and Icod’s centre in the morning, followed by lunch and a walk in Garachico. Adapt it to your group and the weather: El Caletón is optional, and there is no need to add Masca or Los Gigantes to the same outing.
For another day on the west coast, explore our Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago guide.

Villa Dolce Vita offers four bedrooms, three bathrooms and space for up to nine guests, with a private heated pool included. Its Armeñime location makes it a base for combining days out with time together at the villa.
