A cliff panorama, a stroll by the marina and a black-sand beach make Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago an appealing combination for a day on Tenerife’s west coast. From Villa Dolce Vita in Armeñime, you can travel by car or take a bus to explore the coastal towns.
Keep the plan simple: choose a viewpoint, enjoy a walk and decide whether to stay for lunch or spend time at the beach. Swimming should depend on sea conditions and the instructions displayed locally.

Archipenque viewpoint: start with the panorama
Archipenque viewpoint, on the TF-454 road, overlooks the cliffs, coastline and marina. Tenerife’s official tourism website lists parking and accessible access, but no bus stop at the viewpoint itself. This stop is therefore particularly convenient when travelling by car or taxi.
The municipal tourism website describes a small parking area. If it is full, continue to a permitted parking place rather than stopping on the road for photographs. Sunset can bring attractive light, although visibility depends on the weather.
The cliffs rise to 600 metres, according to Tenerife Tourism. You do not need a boat trip to appreciate them: the viewpoint and public areas around the marina offer rewarding views from land.
Los Gigantes marina and Los Guíos beach
Continue to the marina for a stroll through the areas open to visitors. Respect access controls on the pontoons: this is a working marina, and not every section is a public promenade.
Los Guíos beach combines black sand with a striking cliff backdrop. Its municipal information page lists walkways, showers, adapted access and amphibious chairs. If you require assisted bathing, confirm availability and arrangements beforehand; equipment does not mean assistance is available at all times.
The same page warns about waves, currents and rockfalls. Follow any barriers or closures, even if other people are beyond them. A calm-looking photograph cannot tell you whether swimming is suitable on the day.
Puerto de Santiago and Playa de la Arena
For the next part of your day, choose a walk along Puerto de Santiago’s seafront or a stop at Playa de la Arena. There is no need to cover everything on foot: adapt your route to the heat, gradients and everyone’s mobility.

Playa de la Arena sits beside Avenida Marítima, with shops and places to eat nearby. Its official listing includes ramps, walkways and adapted facilities. It works well for a seaside break and lunch, even when swimming is not part of the plan.
A municipal tourism article published in August 2026 lists toilets, showers, sunbed and parasol hire, and lifeguard and rescue services. Check operating hours and availability locally.
Swimming and restrictions: what to check that day
Look at AEMET’s forecast for Playa de la Arena, then follow the flags, signs and lifeguards’ instructions when you arrive. A favourable forecast does not override a local swimming restriction.
The municipal pages for Los Guíos and La Arena list restrictions covering pets, smoking and vaping, fires, camping, and removing sand or stones. Read the full signs before settling down. We could not verify a dated official notice guaranteeing that every access is open; temporary restrictions can change.
If you are considering the Isla Cangrejo natural pool, its municipal page states that there is no lifeguard and that swimming in open water is prohibited. It is not equivalent to a supervised beach. If there are waves, closures or doubts about access, enjoy the coastline from a safe position.
Getting to Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago
By car: from Armeñime, you can follow the coastal route using the TF-47 and the connections recommended by your navigation system for your first stop. Check for disruption before leaving and allow time to park. The sights do not all share one car park.
By bus: TITSA route 473 serves Armeñime, Puerto de Santiago and Los Gigantes. Take the Los Gigantes direction on the way out and the Los Cristianos direction for your return. Check the timetable and your exact stop before setting off. Departure times from the route’s terminals are not the passing times at Armeñime.
By taxi: you can arrange a viewpoint stop and a pickup elsewhere. Ask for a quote and confirm capacity for the whole group. Nine guests should not assume that one standard taxi can accommodate everyone.
Where to park
The operator of Parking El Mirador advertises €1.60 per hour and a full-day option of €15, checked on 24 October 2026. Confirm the applicable conditions on arrival. This car park should not be confused with the small parking area at Archipenque viewpoint.
Los Gigantes marina also lists public paid parking. We have not verified a current tariff, so check the displayed prices and available spaces. For street parking, follow the signs, reserved spaces and local restrictions.
A day in Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago
One easy combination is Archipenque, a walk around Los Gigantes and lunch in Puerto de Santiago. Afterwards, choose one beach or return at a relaxed pace. If travelling on the 473, you can focus on the coastal towns and leave the viewpoint for another outing.
To add a boat excursion, read our Tenerife whale-watching guide and book with an authorised operator. There is no need to fit a boat trip, viewpoints and two beaches into a single day.

Villa Dolce Vita in Armeñime has four bedrooms and three bathrooms for up to nine guests, with pool heating included. After exploring the west coast, return to your own space to relax with family or friends.
