A trip to Masca from Adeje can mean taking in mountain scenery or committing to a demanding hiking day. Before leaving Villa Dolce Vita in Armeñime, decide which experience suits your group. The bookings, transport and preparation are different.

Visit the village without booking the gorge
Buenavista del Norte Town Council confirms that visiting the village is free and needs no reservation. You can enjoy its public spaces, hillside houses and views without undertaking the hike. We suggest allowing half a day with travel and a meal, rather than rushing between viewpoints.
The approach road is narrow and winding. Consider travelling to Santiago del Teide and continuing by bus to avoid searching for parking. If you drive to the village, follow the signs: spaces are scarce and the published rule limits parking to two hours between 8am and 2pm. Keep access clear and do not stop in the road to take photographs.
Getting to Masca from Villa Dolce Vita
With a car or taxi, use Santiago del Teide as your connection point. Ask for a taxi quote for your particular journey and arrange the return. For an independent gorge hike, a taxi all the way to Masca does not replace the compulsory bus.
TITSA route 460 links Costa Adeje with Santiago del Teide. Check the journey planner for your connection from Armeñime and the appropriate stop. Then route 355 connects Santiago del Teide, Masca and Buenavista. Timetables vary by day, and certain services give boarding priority to gorge ticket holders. Check the return journey too.
Our transport guide from Armeñime can help you choose between driving and public transport. For an early hiking slot, work backwards from the required arrival time in Santiago del Teide and leave a generous margin.

Masca gorge bookings, prices and times
Book a dated time slot through the official Masca Gorge Trail website. The published schedule runs Wednesday to Saturday, subject to the booking calendar and closures. Descent slots are advertised from 8.30am to 1pm. A ticket does not guarantee that conditions will allow the trail to open.
Published non-resident admission is €40.66 per adult and €20.33 per child. Canary Islands resident rates are €7.49 and €3.75 respectively; the council states that Tenerife residents receive a refund after their residency is verified. Confirm your category and final price when booking. The bus, boat and onward road journey cost extra; trail admission is not an all-inclusive excursion.
Arrange the bus and boat together
The official access instructions require independent hikers to take route 355 from Santiago del Teide and keep the ticket. Leave your car at the cemetery car park and allow around ten minutes to walk to the bus stop. Be there at least an hour before your hiking slot, and at the Masca checkpoint thirty minutes before it.
The normal exit is by sea to Los Gigantes. Coordinate both bookings before finalising your plan: your boat departure must be no later than four hours after the start of your hiking slot. The official transport directory lists Discover Teno, Marítima Acantilados and Masca Express, operating on a rota. Confirm the operator, fare and departure for your date. To collect a car in Santiago, the trail manager suggests buses 462 and 325; check connections or arrange a taxi. A collaborating tour company can organise the logistics, but check exactly what its price includes.
How demanding is the gorge hike?
The safety guidance rates the trail as difficult: roughly five kilometres and four hours downhill, from around 750 metres to sea level. An unexpected jetty closure may require walking back uphill. The route is not adapted for reduced mobility. Children under eight cannot enter; older minors need an accompanying adult and parental authorisation where applicable.
Bring identification and booking documents. The compulsory equipment includes closed mountain, trail or trekking footwear with deep tread, suitable clothing, a helmet loaned by staff, at least 1.5 litres of water each, food, a charged phone and any prescribed medication you need. Read the full checklist: having a ticket does not override equipment requirements.
The beach is closed to the public, so do not plan this as a beach swimming trip. Ordinary pets and recreational drones are not allowed on the trail. Check Masca today before setting off and follow staff instructions.
Back to your base in Armeñime

For a group with different interests or walking abilities, the village-only visit may be the easier day to organise. If you choose the gorge, keep the rest of the day free for travel and recovery. Villa Dolce Vita offers four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a private heated pool included in the stay, for up to nine guests.
Explore Villa Dolce Vita and check dates and prices, then choose the Masca experience that fits your group.
