San Sebastián in La Caleta offers a chance to experience Adeje’s local traditions during a winter holiday in Tenerife. Around La Enramada, the celebration brings together religious observance, the area’s farming heritage and one of its best-known scenes: riders and horses beside the sea.
If you are considering a visit in January 2027, there is an important distinction to make when planning. The local public holiday is confirmed, but we have not yet found an official programme setting out the events and times for that edition.
San Sebastián 2027: what is confirmed?
20 January 2027 is listed as a local public holiday in Adeje for San Sebastián in the Canary Islands Official Gazette. This confirms the holiday date, rather than the festival programme.
During our check on 24 October 2026, we did not find the official 2027 programme in the municipal sources reviewed. Religious service times, the route, additional events and access arrangements remain unconfirmed here. Consult Adeje Town Hall’s agenda before making detailed plans and check again closer to your visit.
The council’s general information describes celebrations traditionally taking place around 19 and 20 January. We are not treating that as a confirmed two-day schedule for 2027 or carrying over times from previous years.
The tradition of San Sebastián in La Caleta
San Sebastián is a co-patron saint of Adeje, and the celebration has strong links with farming and livestock. The council’s account of the tradition describes religious worship, a procession towards the sea and the blessing of animals. It is also a gathering for different generations, residents and visitors.
Tenerife’s official tourism website highlights the traditional sea bathing of horses at La Enramada. This helps explain the celebration’s appeal, although the arrangements for 2027 will depend on the programme and the organisers’ instructions. Visitors should watch respectfully and give participants and animals plenty of room.
Where to plan your visit
The relevant area is San Sebastián and La Enramada beach, on Adeje’s coast beside La Caleta. Check the precise location of each event when planning your route. Searching simply for “San Sebastián” can bring up celebrations elsewhere.
Leave room in your day rather than trying to fit in a packed itinerary. Once the programme is published, choose the event you most want to see and allow time both to arrive and to leave the area. If you would like a meal afterwards, check opening arrangements, availability and booking terms directly with your chosen restaurant.
Getting there from Villa Dolce Vita
Villa Dolce Vita is in Armeñime, within the municipality of Adeje. We recommend a car for exploring during your stay, but a taxi may also suit a visit to the celebration. Decide according to your group size, return plans and any restrictions announced for the event.
- By car: check traffic and parking notices. Do not assume you can drive right up to the beach or park beside the event area.
- By taxi: agree on a pickup point that will be reachable during the celebration and confirm your return arrangements.
- By bus: check TITSA’s journey information and service notices for your exact destination and travel date. We have not confirmed a special event service or a direct connection from the villa.
Our guide to cars, taxis and buses from Armeñime compares the wider options. We do not quote a fixed journey time to the festival, as traffic, access arrangements and your drop-off or parking point may affect the trip.
Practical tips for visiting with family
Bring comfortable footwear, water, sun protection and a layer for the wind. If travelling with children, choose a meeting point and stay together in busy areas. Follow the organisers’ instructions and keep procession routes clear.
Watch animals from a suitable distance, and do not touch or feed them without permission. Do not enter the water to copy the horses’ sea bathing: taking part and assessing sea conditions are different from watching as a visitor.
If someone uses a wheelchair or needs to avoid long walks, ask about the precise access route, surfaces and designated viewing areas once event information is available. We do not describe the whole beach area as accessible. For accommodation planning, see our guide to access and reduced mobility.
A January holiday with time to unwind
San Sebastián can be a cultural outing within a holiday that also leaves time to explore and relax. Villa Dolce Vita has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and room for up to nine guests, with private pool heating included. It is in Armeñime, rather than at the festival site or on the beachfront.
Check Villa Dolce Vita’s dates and prices. If the celebration is your main reason for travelling, review the municipal programme and your booking conditions before confirming your plans.
